A Reminder of …You.
You are not under, you are above. From civilisations of kings, of winners, of vast wealth, of brave men. Your history is the beginning of civilisation; from 'the land of the tall and smooth skin'. Your strength is admired throughout the world.
You are not poor, you are rich; I say this because the riches your roots possess are unimaginable.
They throw words at you to try and demean you because they are scared of you. Deep down they wished they were like you. All that you are and can be they see. So everyday they try harder to demean you.
You knew God since Abraham. You knew Christ since the apostles. Ancient Bibles in Sudan proves so. My great-grandmother (pre-colonialism) letting the family know we come from a line of God worshippers, proves so. You knew Islam at the time of Muhammad. So missionaries were not the beginnings of you knowing the 'I Am'.They throw words at you to try and demean you because they are scared of you. Deep down they wished they were like you. All that you are and can be they see. So everyday they try harder to demean you.
So I ask you to 'stand up' and love yourself, love your people. If you have grown not to like yourself, the same steps you can take to change that. One mistake in your life is not a tattoo on your body. Let it go, forget it and move on. 'Forward ever, backward never'.
You come in so many shades of brown and cream. Beauty from you is unmatchable in my eyes, that of Alice and many more. You have a presence that is electrifying. Your gift for sociability is envied.
Do not change yourself to make others feel more comfortable, be who you are - let your strengths shine through; those who look at you disgusted simply wish they had it. It is envy and insecurity they are showing.
Love yourself, like I love you. Hold your head up higher than an ostrich does with its head high. With your help the world is what it is today.Do not change yourself to make others feel more comfortable, be who you are - let your strengths shine through; those who look at you disgusted simply wish they had it. It is envy and insecurity they are showing.
You are the sons of Sheba, Amina, Yaa Asantewaa and Queen Mothers of today. Next time you look in the mirror, look at yourself with pride. Your roots are unmatchable. Your steps are unstoppable.
